Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon and sits on the river that carried the Klondike stampede north in 1898; the sternwheeler SS Klondike is beached in the middle of town.

Takhini's hot springs are twenty minutes out and steam hard at minus thirty. The aurora shows from late August to April, and in summer the river is paddled under a sun that barely sets.

Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre
A museum on the Alaska Highway about Beringia — the land bridge and the unglaciated country around it, where mammoth, steppe bison and giant beaver lived while ice covered the rest of the continent. Yukon placer miners still turn up the bones, and many are here.

MacBride Museum of Yukon History
A non-profit museum at Whitehorse in the Yukon. The Yukon Historical Society founded it in 1950 and it opened in 1952, which makes it the oldest museum in the territory.

Yukon Arts Centre
The territory's main house for performance and exhibition, opened in May 1992 with a 428-seat theatre and a gallery of 390 square metres. Its permanent collection holds more than 100 works by artists from across northern Canada.
