아테네는 서양 문명의 원점 위에 사는 도시다. 아크로폴리스의 파르테논 신전은 어느 각도에서 봐도 압도적이고, 그 아래 플라카 지구의 골목은 타베르나와 부겐빌레아로 이어진다.

아크로폴리스 박물관의 유리 바닥 아래 발굴 현장, 모나스티라키 벼룩시장, 리카비토스 언덕의 일몰까지 — 수블라키와 그릭 요거트로 체력을 보충하며 걷는 도시다. 여름 한낮 더위는 만만치 않으니 아침 일찍 아크로폴리스부터.
