   Akureyrarkirkja

   A Lutheran church of 1940 above the harbour by Gudjon Samuelsson, the architect of Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik. One of its windows came from Coventry Cathedral — removed before the bombing of 1940 and bought for this church afterwards.

   Akureyri Botanical Garden

   A botanical garden at forty-five metres at the head of the Eyjafjörður south of Akureyri in northern Iceland. Eighty-five kilometres from the Arctic Circle, it is among the northernmost botanical gardens in the world, and it grew from a park association formed by the women of the town in 1910.

   An art museum in central Akureyri in Iceland, founded in 1993. The building was originally a dairy and is regarded as a good example of Bauhaus architecture.

   Munkaþverá

   A Benedictine monastery that stood in Eyjafjörður in Iceland. It was founded about 1155 and closed when the country turned Protestant in 1550; its early abbot Nikulás Bergsson wrote the pilgrim's guide from northern Europe to Rome and Jerusalem for which it is known.

   St. Peter's Church, Akureyri

   A red and white house of 1912 that the Reykjavik diocese bought in 1952 and converted into a church between 1998 and 2000. Named for Saint Peter, it serves the small Catholic congregation of northern Iceland.
