   St. Michael's Church

   A Gothic hall church of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, among the largest in Romania, with a neo-Gothic tower of 1860 rising some eighty metres. Matthias Corvinus was baptised in it; he was born in the house across the square.

   Cluj-Napoca Neolog Synagogue

   A synagogue at 21 Horea Street in Cluj-Napoca, designed by Izidor Hegner in Moorish Revival and completed in 1887. It is also called the Temple of the Deportees in memory of those taken in the Holocaust.

   Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral, Cluj-Napoca

   The best-known Romanian Orthodox cathedral in Cluj-Napoca, built in the Brâncovenesc style that combines Renaissance and Byzantine forms. It stands on Avram Iancu Square with the national theatre and the statue of Avram Iancu, and is the seat of the metropolitan of Cluj.

   Transfiguration Cathedral

   A cathedral in Cluj-Napoca, also called the Church of the Friars Minor. After the see moved from Gherla to Cluj, the Holy See granted it to the Romanian Greek Catholic Church in 1924 as the cathedral of the eparchy of Cluj-Gherla.

   Castra Napoca

   The Roman auxiliary fort on the site of modern Cluj, laid out after Trajan's conquest of Dacia in 106. The town that grew beside it was raised to a municipium under Hadrian and later to a colonia, and gave the modern city the second half of its name.
