   Truro Cathedral

   A Gothic Revival cathedral built at Truro between 1880 and 1910, the first new Anglican cathedral in England since the Middle Ages. Its three spires stand over the low roofs of the town and part of an older parish church was kept inside it.

   Bedruthan Steps

   A stretch of the north Cornish coast between Padstow and Newquay where a line of slate stacks stands out from the beach, exposed only at low tide. The stair that gave it its name is closed for safety; the cliff-top path is the view.

   Trerice

   An Elizabethan manor of 1573 near Newquay with a Dutch-influenced curved gable and a great hall window of 576 panes, most of it original sixteenth-century glass. The National Trust has held it since 1953.

   Newquay Zoo

   A zoo opened in 1969 in Newquay, small in area but active in conservation, with breeding programmes for endangered primates and Madagascan species. It works with the Durrell and Cornish wildlife networks.

   St John the Evangelist's Church, Truro

   A Gothic Revival parish church of 1873 in Truro, built as the city expanded, and listed at Grade II. It stands on Lemon Street below the cathedral.

   A former Anglican parish church in Truro, built in the later nineteenth century for a working district of the city and closed. It is listed at Grade II and has been scheduled for demolition.

   Nine Maidens stone row

   A prehistoric row of standing stones on the downs east of Newquay in St Columb Major, the only stone row of its kind in Cornwall and one of very few in southern England. Nine stones were recorded historically; fewer stand today.

   Fistral Beach

   A beach on Fistral Bay at Newquay facing the open Atlantic, and the centre of British surfing since the 1960s. The Boardmasters festival and international competitions are held on it, and the swell here is more reliable than anywhere else in England.

   Prideaux Place

   An Elizabethan house of 1592 at Padstow, lived in by the Prideaux family for over four hundred years, with a plaster ceiling of the 1580s in the great chamber. Its deer park is thought to be one of the oldest enclosed in England.

    St Breock Downs Monolith

    A prehistoric standing stone on St Breock Downs weighing about sixteen tonnes, the largest and heaviest menhir in Cornwall, raised in the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. Its Cornish name, Men Gurta, means stone of waiting.

   St Enodoc's Church, Trebetherick

   A tiny church half-buried in the dunes above Daymer Bay, so drifted over with sand that until 1863 the vicar had to be lowered in through the roof to keep up the services. The poet John Betjeman lies buried in its churchyard.

   An Iron Age hillfort on Castle Downs near St Columb Major, of three concentric earth ramparts, and among the most important hillforts in southwest Britain. Legend makes it the place where the Duke of Cornwall was killed while Uther Pendragon lay with his wife.

   Camel Creek Adventure Park

   A family theme park in the fields outside Wadebridge, on the north Cornish coast near the Camel estuary. Indoor and outdoor rides, a water play area and animal paddocks are spread across the site, which opens through the school holidays.

   Trewithen House

   A Palladian country house at Probus built by Thomas Edwards in 1723, whose gardens of twelve hectares hold one of the finest magnolia and rhododendron collections in Britain, planted from 1904 with seed from Himalayan expeditions.

   St Columb Minor Church

   A late fifteenth-century parish church at St Columb Minor east of Newquay, whose tower at about thirty-three metres is one of the tallest in Cornwall. Its Norman font survives from the earlier building.

   St Probus and St Grace's Church, Probus

   A Grade I listed parish church at Probus whose sixteenth-century tower, at about thirty-eight metres, is the tallest church tower in Cornwall. Its granite carving was modelled on Somerset work.

   Colan Church

   A thirteenth-century church at Colan near Newquay, dedicated to St Colanus and listed Grade I since 1967. It keeps its wagon roof and fragments of medieval stained glass, and stands alone in fields.

   A housing estate on the western edge of Truro, developed in the later twentieth century, which shares an electoral ward with Threemilestone. The Royal Cornwall Hospital and a university campus are in the area.

    St Ladoca's Church, Ladock

    A fifteenth-century parish church at Ladock southeast of Newquay, listed Grade I, restored in the nineteenth century by William White with stained glass of that date. Its wagon roof and granite arcade survive from the medieval building.
