   Washington Slagbaai National Park

   Two former plantations on Bonaire's northwest made into a park in 1969 — the first nature reserve in the Netherlands Antilles. Flamingos feed at Salina Slagbaai, Mount Brandaris rises to 241 metres, and the tracks through it need high clearance.

   Fort Oranje

   The oldest masonry building on Bonaire, raised in 1639 by the Dutch West India Company and never once used in anger. Rebuilt and given the name Fort Orange in 1816, it now carries the Kralendijk lighthouse of 1932 within its walls.

   Bonaire National Marine Park

   One of the oldest marine reserves in the world, declared in 1979 and running from the high-water line to a depth of sixty metres around Bonaire and Klein Bonaire. Its 2,700 hectares of reef, seagrass and mangrove hold 86 marked dive sites, most enterable straight from the shore.

   Hilma Hooker

   A cargo ship launched in the Netherlands in 1951 as the Midsland. Her name changed with each owner until she became the Hilma Hooker in 1979; she sank off Bonaire and is now a well-known dive site.

   St. Bernard Church

   A Catholic church in yellow and white with a steep triangular front and a bell tower alongside, built in 1948 on a site that has carried a church of St Bernard since the 18th century. Mass here is said in Papiamentu.

   St. Louis Bertrand Church

   The parish church of Rincon, the oldest village on Bonaire, painted yellow and white and named for the Dominican missionary Louis Bertrand, canonised in 1691. A figure of the saint stands beside the main door.
