   Basilica of Saint Nicholas

   Begun in 1087 to hold the bones of St Nicholas, which sixty-two sailors from Bari had taken from Myra in what everyone involved described as a rescue. The crypt is shared with the Orthodox, who come in numbers, and a clear liquid drawn from the tomb is distributed each 9 May.
