   Akaka Falls State Park

   A loop trail through bamboo and wild ginger along the shoulder of a gorge 11 miles north of Hilo, giving onto Akaka Falls, which drops 442 feet in a single leap. Kahuna Falls, 300 feet high, shows from the same path.

   Liliuokalani Park and Gardens

   A twenty-four-acre Japanese garden on Banyan Drive at Hilo on the island of Hawaii. Queen Liliuokalani gave the land, and it was laid out in the Edo style between 1917 and 1919; it is described as the largest Japanese garden outside Japan.

   Kolekole Beach Park

   A county park where the Kolekole stream, down from 8,000 feet on Mauna Kea, meets the sea three miles below Akaka Falls. The Belt Road crosses high overhead on a bridge; the park reopened in April 2024 after $6.3 million of work following a long closure for lead in the soil.
