   Allerton Garden

   A garden on Kauai's south shore laid out by Robert Allerton and his adopted son from the 1930s, as a sequence of outdoor rooms linked by water. The Moreton Bay fig roots in it were filmed in Jurassic Park. Access is by guided tour only, booked ahead.

   McBryde Garden

   A botanical garden of eighty hectares in the Lawai valley on Kauai's south shore, one of five run by the National Tropical Botanical Garden. It holds the largest collection of native Hawaiian plants anywhere.

   Moir Gardens

   A garden of fourteen hectares at Poipu on Kauai in Hawaii. It lies immediately west of Poipu Beach Park and is open free every day, with a substantial collection of cacti and succulents.

   Iraivan Temple

   A Hindu temple to Shiva on Kauai in Hawaii. Its name is Tamil for the one who is above all; work began in 1990, and it is the first temple in the western hemisphere built entirely of white granite, cut in India and shipped over.

   The largest limestone cave in Hawaii, entered through a sinkhole in the Mahaulepu valley on Kauai's south shore. Its sediments have held bones, seeds and pollen for thousands of years, making it the richest fossil site in the islands.
