   Lyford Cay

   A private gated community on the western tip of New Providence, about four hundred and fifty houses, and among the wealthiest addresses anywhere. It has its own marina and golf course, and the road in stops at a gatehouse.

   Nassau Public Library

   A library in Nassau housed in the octagonal building of 1798 that was the town jail, the cells now lined with shelves. Founded in 1837, it is among the oldest public libraries in the Caribbean.

   Fort Montagu

   National Art Gallery of The Bahamas

   An art gallery in Nassau in the Bahamas. Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham announced its establishment in 1996, and it is the first national art institution to record and interpret the story of a country independent since 1973.

   Ardastra Gardens, Zoo and Conservation Centre

   A garden and zoo at Nassau in the Bahamas. The Jamaican horticulturist Hedley Vivian Edwards opened it in 1937, and it is known for the flamingos the government introduced in the 1950s, which are drilled to march.

   Christ Church Cathedral

   The Anglican cathedral of Nassau, built in 1837 on ground that had carried earlier churches destroyed by Spanish raids and hurricanes. Raising it to cathedral rank in 1861 is what made Nassau a city; its bells ring out over the harbour.

   St. Andrew's Presbyterian Kirk

   The Kirk, founded in 1798 by fifty-five Scottish Presbyterian settlers, its foundation stone laid on 7 August 1810. It is the oldest Presbyterian congregation in the Bahamas and stands in the middle of Nassau.
