   Waiola Church

   The site of the mission founded at Lahaina in 1823, whose graveyard holds Hawaiian royalty including Queen Keōpūolani, the mother of two kings. The church building was destroyed in the fire of August 2023; the graves came through it.

   A Catholic parish church at Lahaina on Maui, in the diocese of Honolulu. It was one of the few buildings left standing when fire took most of the town in August 2023.

   Lāhainā Jodo Mission

   A Jodo Buddhist mission on the Lahaina shore, founded by Japanese plantation workers, whose grounds held a three-tiered pagoda and a bronze Buddha cast in 1968, the largest outside Japan. The fire of August 2023 destroyed the temple buildings, though the seated figure came through.

   Lahaina Banyan Court Park

   A park of 1.94 acres at the corner of Front Street in Lahaina in Hawaii. It stands on the site of the fort built in 1831 and is named for its enormous banyan tree.

   Maui Nui Botanical Gardens

   A garden of five acres on Kanaloa Avenue in Kahului on Maui in Hawaii. René Sylva founded it on coastal dunes in 1976, and it works to conserve the native plants of the dry forest and shore of Maui Nui.

   Maui Ocean Center

   An aquarium at Maalaea on Maui, opened in 1998 and built around Hawaiian species alone — reef fish, sharks and turtles in a tank you walk beneath. It is the largest tropical reef aquarium in the western hemisphere.

   Mokuʻula

   A small island of one acre that lay in what is now Malu'uluolele Park in Lahaina in Hawaii. Kamehameha III lived on it from 1837 to 1845 and several royals were buried there; Hawaiians regard it as a sacred piko.
