   Mizuwakasu Shrine

   The first shrine of the old province of Oki, standing among cedars on Dogo island. Its hall follows the Oki-zukuri manner, and the island's bull sumo is said to have begun as entertainment for the exiled emperor Go-Toba.

   Mount Takuhi

   A wooded peak of 452 metres on Nishinoshima holding Takuhi Shrine in a cave near its summit, the oldest shrine building in the Oki islands and dating from 1732. Sailors once prayed here for the fire that guided them through the straits.

   Yurahime Shrine

   A shrine facing the sea on Dogo, dedicated to a goddess whose finger, the story goes, was bitten by a squid. In apology the squid still come to this shore in winter, and villagers scoop them from the shallows.

   Mount Daimanji

   The highest point of Dogo island at 608 metres, its slopes under cedar and beech and its summit open to a view over the whole Oki group. The road up passes pastures where horses and cattle graze loose.

   Oki Kokubun-ji Temple

   A Buddhist temple at Ikeda-Furo in Okinoshima town in Shimane prefecture. It belongs to the Tōji branch of Shingon, its principal image is a Shakyamuni, and it continues the provincial temple founded there by Emperor Shōmu in the Nara period.
