   Norton Museum of Art

   An art museum holding more than 8,200 works, strong in European and American painting, Chinese art and photography. Opened in 1941 around Ralph Norton's collection, it overtook the Ringling in 2003 to become the largest museum in Florida.

   Flagler Museum

   Whitehall, a Gilded Age mansion of seventy-five rooms and 5,575 square metres at Palm Beach in Florida. Carrère and Hastings designed it for Henry Flagler in the neoclassical Beaux-Arts manner and it was completed in 1902; it is a National Historic Landmark.

   Society of the Four Arts

   A non-profit cultural organisation founded at Palm Beach in 1936. On its site beside the Intracoastal Waterway it runs a gallery, a concert hall, two libraries and a garden.

   Cathedral of St. Ignatius of Loyola

   The seat of the Catholic diocese of Palm Beach, created in 1984 and covering five counties with 49 parishes. The cathedral itself stands in Palm Beach Gardens rather than in the city that gives the diocese its name.

   John D. MacArthur Beach State Park

   A state park opened in 1989 on Singer Island, where a boardwalk crosses the Lake Worth lagoon to nearly three kilometres of undeveloped beach. Sea turtles nest on the sand in summer, with mangrove and hammock behind.

   Bethesda-by-the-Sea

   An Episcopal church of 1926 in Gothic Revival, the third building of a congregation founded in 1889 when Palm Beach was still mostly pineapple fields. The Cluett memorial garden beside it is open, and the society weddings inside it are a local institution.
