   USS Massachusetts

   An Indiana-class battleship of 1893, sunk deliberately in shallow water off Pensacola in 1921 as a gunnery target and never raised. She lies in about ten metres of water and is now a state underwater archaeological preserve open to divers.

   National Naval Aviation Museum

   A museum at the naval air station holding some hundred and fifty aircraft, including four Blue Angels Skyhawks hung in formation from the atrium roof and carrier aircraft recovered from the bottom of Lake Michigan. Admission is free.

   Fort Barrancas

   A fort and national historic site inside Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida. A hilltop fort and a water battery below it command Pensacola Bay; the old Spanish fort was substantially rebuilt in brick between 1839 and 1844.

   Fort Pickens

   A pentagonal brick fort of 1834 on Santa Rosa Island, and one of the largest coastal works the United States built. It stayed in Union hands throughout the Civil War, which kept Pensacola closed to the Confederacy. Geronimo was held prisoner in it in the 1880s.
