   Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park

   A fortress on a volcanic hill built by enslaved Africans over a century from 1690, and among the best-preserved in the Americas. The British called it the Gibraltar of the West Indies; the French took it in 1782 and gave it back a year later. World Heritage since 1999.

   Co-Cathedral of Immaculate Conception, Basseterre

   The Catholic co-cathedral of Basseterre, serving the diocese of St John's-Basseterre, which covers five separate jurisdictions across the eastern Caribbean. It is a plain stone church in the middle of the town.

   St. Kitts Scenic Railway

   A narrow-gauge railway of twenty-nine kilometres around the coast of St Kitts, built between 1912 and 1926 to carry sugar cane to the mill. Since the industry closed it has run double-decker carriages for visitors.

   Berkeley Memorial

   A monument in the middle of the Circus, the central roundabout of Basseterre in Saint Kitts and Nevis. It carries a drinking fountain and a clock whose four faces each look down one of the four streets meeting there.

   Pinney's Beach

   A long sand beach on the Caribbean coast of the western side of Nevis in Saint Kitts and Nevis. It begins just outside the capital, Charlestown, and runs some five kilometres north.

   St. George's Anglican Church

   The Anglican parish church and pro-cathedral of Basseterre, rebuilt more than once after fire, hurricane and earthquake. Its churchyard holds graves of planters, soldiers and enslaved people.

   Château de la Montagne

   A fortified palace that stood in the parish of Saint Peter Basseterre on Saint Kitts. Governor Philippe de Longvilliers de Poincy built it in the baroque manner in the 1640s and it was considered among the finest houses in the Caribbean; the earthquake of 1689 brought it down.
