   A hacienda of 1608, known as the place where Simón Bolívar died on 17 December 1830. It stands at Mamatoco in Santa Marta near the Caribbean and is a national monument of Colombia.

   El Rodadero

   A resort bay south of Santa Marta, its half-moon of sand backed by a wall of hotel towers. Boats run from here to the quieter sand at Playa Blanca, and an aquarium sits on the point at the northern end.

   Museo de Oro Tairona

   A colonial building on Plaza Bolívar in Santa Marta in Colombia, originally the customs house. It is a regional branch of the gold museum of the central bank of Colombia and shows the goldwork and culture of the ancient peoples of the Sierra Nevada.

   Cathedral of Santa Marta

   One of the oldest cathedrals in South America, begun in 1766 in a city founded in 1525. The bones of Rodrigo de Bastidas, who founded Santa Marta, lie inside, and Simon Bolivar rested here from 1830 until his remains were carried home to Caracas in 1842.

   Rodadero Sea Aquarium and Museum

   A public aquarium and maritime museum in Inca Inca bay off El Rodadero at Santa Marta in Colombia. Captain Francisco Ospina Navia opened it in 1965 and it belongs to the national museum network of Colombia.
