   Assumption Cathedral, Kingstown

   The Catholic cathedral of Kingstown, built in the nineteenth century and enlarged in the 1930s by a priest who worked in whatever style pleased him — Romanesque, Gothic and Moorish arches in the same building, in black volcanic stone. The result is unlike any other church in the Caribbean.

   Botanic Gardens St. Vincent

   A botanic garden at Kingstown in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Established in 1765, it is the oldest in the western hemisphere and among the most visited places in the country; a breadfruit tree grown from Bligh's original planting still stands in it.

   Fort Charlotte

   A British colonial fort on Berkshire Hill above the harbour of Kingstown in Saint Vincent. It stands at 601 feet and was the principal defence of the island in the early nineteenth century; its guns pointed inland, against the Caribs, rather than out to sea.

   St. George's Cathedral (Kingstown)

   The Anglican cathedral of Kingstown, built in the 1820s in a plain Georgian manner with a square tower and a galleried interior. Its stained glass includes a window said to have been made for Windsor and turned down by Queen Victoria.
