Bragança stands in Portugal's far northeast, close to the Spanish border, with a walled citadel and twelfth-century keep still lived in above the modern town.

Inside the walls is the Domus Municipalis, a Romanesque civic hall of a kind that survives nowhere else in Iberia. Montesinho park behind it holds wolves and villages with communal ovens.

Old Cathedral of the Holy Name of Jesus
The former cathedral of Bragança, a plain sixteenth-century church with a painted timber ceiling. The see was moved to Miranda do Douro and back over the centuries, and the title finally passed to a larger church in the lower town.

Domus Municipalis
A twelfth-century Romanesque hall inside the citadel of Bragança, where the town's freemen met. It is the only surviving Romanesque civic building of its kind in the Iberian peninsula, with a cistern beneath it.
