   Mevlâna Museum

   The lodge of the Mevlevi order and the tomb of Rumi, who died in Konya in 1273. The turquoise fluted dome over his sarcophagus is the emblem of the city. The order was banned in 1925 and the building became a museum, which is why the whirling ceremony is now performed rather than practised here.

   Alâeddin Mosque

   The principal building of the citadel quarter on Alaeddin hill in the middle of Konya, where the Seljuk palace stood. It was the mosque of the sultans of Rum, several of whom are buried in its courtyard, and it was built in stages from the middle of the twelfth to the middle of the thirteenth century.

   Selim Konya Mosque

   An Ottoman mosque in Konya, built between 1558 and 1567 while the future Selim II governed the province, and standing in the same precinct as the Mevlana lodge. Its plan follows the imperial mosques of Istanbul at smaller scale.

   Ince Minaret Medrese

   A 13th-century madrasa in Konya, now a museum of stone and wood carving. Its elaborate portal, domed court and minaret of patterned brick are landmarks of Anatolian Seljuk architecture; part of the minaret collapsed in 1901.

   A thirteenth-century Islamic school at Konya, the capital of the Sultanate of Rum. Its name means the glazed madrasa; of the twenty-four or so Seljuk madrasas in the city, seven survive.

   Seljuk palace of Konya

   The remains of a palace at Konya in Turkey, known locally as the Seljuk kiosk. Kilij Arslan II, fifth sultan of the Sultanate of Rum, who reigned from 1156 to 1192, first built it, and it is the earliest datable palace architecture in the country.
