Langkawi is an archipelago of ninety-nine islands off the Thai border and a duty-free zone, which explains both the beach bars and the price of them.

A cable car climbs to a curved footbridge slung six hundred and sixty metres up, with the Andaman islands spread below. The mangrove channels of the Kilim geopark are paddled or taken by boat. Pantai Cenang has the sand and the sunsets.

    Langkawi Legend Park

    A park on the waterfront at Kuah where seventeen of Langkawi's legends — the giants, the cursed princess, the ogre — are set out as sculpture in landscaped grounds. It adjoins Eagle Square.

    Cenang Beach

    The main beach of Langkawi, two kilometres of sand on the southwest coast backed by hotels, bars and stalls. Parasails and jet skis work the bay, and the sunsets over the Andaman Sea draw a crowd every evening.
