   Tierra del Fuego National Park

   A national park designated in 1960 on the Argentine side of Tierra del Fuego, the first coastal national park in the country. Waterfalls, mountains and glaciers run through its subantarctic forest.

   Southern Fuegian Railway

   A 500 mm gauge steam railway in Tierra del Fuego, laid to carry stone, sand and timber to the prison at Ushuaia. It now runs as a tourist line into Tierra del Fuego National Park and is reckoned the southernmost railway in the world.

   Museo del Fin del Mundo

   A museum in the bank building of 1903 on the waterfront, holding the natural history of Tierra del Fuego along with Yamana and Selknam material, salvage from wrecks and the papers of the first settlers.

   Maritime Museum at the Presidio of Ushuaia

   The old prison of Ushuaia, built by its own convicts between 1902 and 1920 in five radiating wings and now given over to museums of the sea, Antarctic exploration and the penal colony itself. Cells stand open along the corridors, some furnished as they were.

   Plaza Islas Malvinas, Ushuaia

   A waterfront square with a memorial to the Argentine dead of the 1982 Falklands war, the outline of the islands laid out in stone at its centre. It looks over the Beagle Channel, and the ceremonies of 2 April are held here.
