   Santa Bárbara Castle

   A fortress on the Benacantil crag a hundred and sixty-six metres above the beach, Muslim in origin and taken by Castile on St Barbara's day in 1248. A lift runs up through the inside of the rock from the seafront, which saves the climb.

   Basilica of Saint Mary

   The oldest church still in use in Alicante in Spain. It was built in Valencian Gothic between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries on the site of a mosque, with six chapels set between the buttresses along its single nave.

   Alicante Museum of Contemporary Art

   The municipal contemporary art museum of Alicante in Spain. Eusebio Sempere founded it in 1976; it reopened in 2011 after a substantial refurbishment and shows some eight hundred works of twentieth-century and contemporary art in three permanent collections.

   Gravina Museum of Fine Arts

   An art museum in the palace of the Count of Lumiares in Alicante. The four-storey building was raised between 1748 and 1808 and is a scheduled monument; it holds nearly five hundred paintings and sculptures of Alicante from the sixteenth century to the early twentieth.

    Castillo-Fortaleza de Santa Pola

    A sixteenth-century Renaissance fortress on the Plaza de la Glorieta in Santa Pola, Alicante. It has a courtyard, cisterns and the chapel of Our Lady of Loreto, and houses the sea museum and the fishing museum.
