Fernando de Noronha is a volcanic archipelago three hundred and fifty kilometres out in the Atlantic, protected as a national park and World Heritage since 2001.

The number of visitors is capped and a daily environmental fee is charged, which is why the water is what it is. Baía do Sancho, reached by ladders down a cliff, is repeatedly voted the best beach in the world. Spinner dolphins enter the next bay each morning.
