Gazipaşa is the airport for Alanya, whose castle wall runs six and a half kilometres around a headland the Seljuks took and fortified in 1221. The Seljuks built the castle, the Red Tower of 1226 and a covered shipyard there when this was their Mediterranean port.

Cleopatra's beach runs below the rock. Restaurants on the Dim river set their tables on platforms over the water. Side, with its Roman theatre and temple on the point, is an easy drive west.

    Selinus

    A port town on the Cilician coast where the emperor Trajan died in 117, on his way back from Parthia. The building the locals call his cenotaph stands by the river mouth, along with a bath house and a necropolis cut into the slope.

    Antiochia ad Cragum

    A Hellenistic city on Mount Cragus overlooking the Mediterranean in Cilicia in Anatolia. It was also called the lesser Antioch, and its remains lie in the village of Güneyköy in Gazipaşa in Antalya province.

    Aytap

    The remains of an ancient port on the Mediterranean coast about thirty kilometres east of Alanya. It was called Iotape in antiquity, now lies in Antalya province, and the coast road runs past the ruins.
