   Ibiza Cathedral

   The cathedral at the top of Dalt Vila, built in the fourteenth century on the site of a mosque, itself on a Roman temple. Its interior was redone in the eighteenth century; the terrace outside gives the whole harbour, the salt pans and Formentera.

   Sa Caleta Phoenician Settlement

   A Phoenician settlement of the eighth century BC on a headland ten kilometres from the town, abandoned within a century when the population moved to the better harbour. The stone house foundations are exposed on the clifftop and it is part of the World Heritage listing.

   Cala Salada

   A small cove north of Sant Antoni backed by red cliffs and pines, reached down a narrow road that the council periodically closes to cars because it cannot take them. A second, smaller beach lies over the rocks to the north.

   Cala Vadella

   A small cove on the west coast between steep pine slopes, with a sheltered bay that stays flat when the rest of the island is choppy. It is family territory rather than club territory, and the boats moor close in.

   Puig des Molins, Ibiza

   The Punic necropolis on the hill above the town, where more than three thousand rock-cut chambers hold something like ten times that many burials. Carthaginians were brought here from across the western Mediterranean because Ibiza had no venomous animals. Part of the World Heritage listing.

   Platja des Niu Blau

   A small sheltered cove of sand backed by pines on Ibiza's east coast, 2.3 km east of Santa Eularia des Riu and about 3 km short of Es Canar. Facilities are basic and the crowds stay modest.

   Cala Llonga

   A settlement and resort in a deep inlet on the east coast, walled by cliffs on both sides so the water stays flat. It grew from a fishing anchorage and had about a thousand residents in 2018; the beach is one of the few on the island with a river mouth behind it.

   Cala d’Hort

   A beach on the west coast looking straight at Es Vedrà, the limestone islet that rises nearly four hundred metres out of the sea. The sunset here is the island's most photographed, and the fish restaurants behind the sand have been there far longer than the crowds.

   Platja S'Estanyol

   A quiet cove on the east coast in the municipality of Santa Eularia des Riu, some 15 km southwest of the town and under 3 km from the village of Jesus, reached by a track down through the pines.

    Sa Caleta

    A cove on the southwest coast with red cliffs and a row of wooden boat sheds cut into them. The eighth-century Phoenician settlement stands on the headland immediately above, which makes this the oldest inhabited spot on the island.

   Cala Tarida

   A resort on the west coast where a run of small sandy bays is separated by low rock. The water is shallow well out, which is why families come here rather than to the deeper coves further north.

   Two beaches on the southwest coast separated by a small island, where the water shelves over white sand and reads a distinct pale turquoise. It is the island's standard sunset beach, and the car park is full long before then in August.

   Cala Bassa

   A bay on the northwest coast in Sant Josep, about twenty-five kilometres from Ibiza Town, where the pines come down to the sand and the water is shallow and clear. It is among the most popular beaches on the island and the car park fills by ten.

   Platja Port d’es Torrent

   A beach in a small cove within the bay of Sant Antoni on the northern coast of Ibiza. It is close to Sant Antoni but falls administratively within Sant Josep de sa Talaia.

   S’Argamassa Roman Fish Farm

   A Roman fish farm on the coast four and a half kilometres east of Santa Eulària — tanks cut into the rock and fed by a channel from the sea, used to keep fish alive until they were sold. It is the clearest evidence of Roman aquaculture on the island.

   A shallow sandy bay on Ibiza's east coast, 4.3 km east of Santa Eularia des Riu and about 3 km southwest of Es Canar. Small boats run along the coast from its jetty through the summer.

   Museo Arqueológico de Ibiza y Formentera

   The archaeological museum for both islands, whose subject is the Phoenician and Punic period — Ibiza was a Carthaginian centre and its terracotta figures of the goddess Tanit are the collection's core. Part of it sits in the old town, part at the necropolis.
