   Orongo

   A stone village on the rim of the Rano Kau crater at the southwestern corner of Rapa Nui, where fifty-odd low turf-roofed houses stand between a three-hundred-metre sea cliff and the crater marsh. It was the centre of the birdman rite.

   Tahai

   A ceremonial complex on the west coast near Hanga Roa, with three platforms in a row, one of them carrying a statue whose coral eyes have been restored. William Mulloy rebuilt it in the 1970s and is buried nearby.

   Holy Cross Church, Hanga Roa

   A Catholic church on Te Pito o Te Henua Street in Hanga Roa on Easter Island in Chile. It was built in 1937 with Sebastian Englert as its first priest, and Rapa Nui carvers made the figures of Christ, the Virgin and the saints inside it.

   Father Sebastian Englert Anthropological Museum

   A museum at Hanga Roa on Easter Island. It was founded in 1973 and named after the Bavarian missionary Father Sebastian Englert, and its work is to safeguard the Rapa Nui heritage.

   Tukuturi

   The one kneeling moai on the island, carved from the red scoria of Puna Pau and sitting back on its heels near the quarry at Rano Raraku. Bearded and round-faced, it looks little like the others and may be among the last statues made.

   Paro

   The tallest moai ever set upright on a platform, close to ten metres without its topknot and weighing some eighty tonnes. It was pulled down face first at Ahu Te Pito Kura, where it still lies broken.
