   Tian Yi Ge

   The oldest surviving private library in China, built in 1561 by a retired official who set rules to keep it whole — no book to leave, and the door to be opened only when every branch of the family agreed. It holds Ming local histories and examination records found nowhere else.

   Ningbo Museum

   A museum in the Yinzhou district of Ningbo, opened on 5 December 2008. It covers the history and traditional customs of the Ningbo region, in a building by Wang Shu faced in tiles salvaged from demolished villages.

   Baoguo Temple

   A Buddhist temple in Jiangbei district, fifteen kilometres north of Ningbo. Its main hall dates from 1013, in the Northern Song, and is recognised as the second-oldest intact wooden building in southern China.

   Ashoka Temple

   A Buddhist temple in the Yinzhou district of Ningbo, founded in the third century and named for the Indian emperor Ashoka. It claims a relic of the Buddha kept in a small reliquary stupa and is the only temple in China to carry his name.

   Sacred Heart Cathedral

   A Catholic church in Ningbo in Zhejiang. It was the seat of the diocese established on 11 April 1946 and is also called the church of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows.

   Yuehu Mosque

   A mosque near Moon Lake in central Ningbo, founded when Arab and Persian merchants traded through this port and rebuilt in later dynasties. It is one of the oldest working mosques south of the Yangtze.

   Our Lady of the Assumption Cathedral

   The Catholic cathedral of Ningbo in Zhejiang, seat of the diocese established on 11 April 1946. It is a different building from the Sacred Heart cathedral, which burned down on 28 July 2014.

   Qita Temple

   A Chan temple in the Yinzhou district of Ningbo in Zhejiang, its name meaning the temple of seven pagodas. It is the only large Chan temple within the city itself and is designated a national key temple.

    Tianyi Pavilion Museum

    A national first-grade museum in the Haishu district of Ningbo in Zhejiang. It is built around the Ming-dynasty Tianyige library and takes book collecting as its subject, combining research, conservation, display and teaching.
