Nanning is the capital of Guangxi, unusually green for a Chinese city of its size, and the main land route towards Vietnam — the border is three hours south.

Detian, on that border, is the largest transnational waterfall in Asia; the Vietnamese call it Ban Gioc and both sides run boats up to the middle. Qingxiu Mountain park covers a hill in the city with subtropical planting.

    A mosque in Xingning district serving the Hui community of Nanning. The present building is a twentieth-century rebuilding, with the prayer hall under a Chinese roof rather than a dome.

    A sports complex at Nanning built around the multi-purpose Guangxi Stadium. It opened in 2010 at a cost of a billion yuan, holds sixty thousand and is used mainly for football.
