   Guanyin of Nanshan

   The Guanyin of Nanshan is a 108-metre three-faced figure standing on a lotus platform out in the sea. It is the centre of the Nanshan Buddhist culture park and the skyline of Sanya.

   Tianya Haijiao

   Tianya Haijiao, the end of the sky and the corner of the sea, is a shore park of great boulders with a poetic name. For Chinese visitors it works as the place to swear love.

   A Buddhist temple at Sanya in Hainan. Its name comes from a common Buddhist expression, and its grounds run down to the sea.

   Wuzhizhou Island

   An island of 1.48 square kilometres in Haitang bay, some 30 km northeast of Sanya, ringed by clear water and coral. Now given over to diving and watersports, it takes its name from a Taoist said to have gathered herbs here.

   Yanoda is a rainforest park in the interior of Hainan. Ziplines and canyon walks make it a different Hainan from the beaches.

   Luhuitou Park

   A headland above Sanya named from the legend of a hunter who chased a deer to the cliff edge, where it turned its head and became a girl. A granite group of the three stands on the summit, and the terrace looks down over the whole bay.

   Mount Qixian Hot Springs National Forest Park

   A ridge of seven peaks in Baoting rising to 1,126 metres, with hot springs breaking out at its foot at close to boiling. Rainforest trails climb from the resorts below, and the springs feed pools throughout the valley.
