   Mount Lao

   St. Michael's Cathedral, Qingdao

   St Michael's Cathedral, with its twin towers, dates from the German leasehold period and crowns the hill of the old town. The square in front has become a favourite spot for wedding photographs.

   Qingdao International Sailing Centre

   The Olympic Sailing Centre is the seafront marina used for the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It is the far end of the waterfront night walk that starts at May Fourth Square.

   Qingdao TV Tower

   A lattice broadcasting tower 232 metres high on the summit of Taipingshan at 116 metres inside Julinshan Park in Qingdao. It has an observation deck and is the highest attraction in the city; work began in 1993 and finished in 1996.

   May Fourth Square

   May Fourth Square, with the red spiral sculpture called the May Wind, is the face of Qingdao. At night the media façades of the surrounding towers wrap the whole square in light.

   Lu Xun Park

   Lu Xun Park is a walking park on the rocks above the sea, joined to the aquarium and the bathing beach. It is the point from which the red roofs of the old town and the water can be taken in together.

    Diederichs's stone

    A monument raised at Qingdao to the German seizure of Kiautschou Bay on 14 November 1897 and to Admiral Otto von Diederichs. Prince Heinrich of Prussia unveiled it on 21 November 1898; it stood at ninety-eight metres on the southwestern slope of Signal Hill.
