   Immaculate Conception Cathedral, Ürümqi

   A Catholic church in Ürümqi in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. It is the mother church of the apostolic prefecture of Xinjiang, established by Pius XI in 1930 and raised to its present rank in 1938.

   People's Square

   A square spread around a major junction in the centre of the Tianshan district of Ürümqi in Xinjiang. It is a landmark of the city, the site of its large public events and a favourite place of its residents.

   Urumqi Confucius Temple

   A Confucian temple at 15 Qianjin Road in the Tianshan district of Ürümqi in Xinjiang. It was built at the end of the Qing and is the only complete Qing-style complex and the only Confucian temple left in Xinjiang.

   Khantengri Mosque

   The largest mosque in Urumqi, rebuilt in the 1990s with a green dome and tall minarets on the site of an older prayer hall. It serves both Uyghur and Hui congregations and stands close to the bazaar.

   Ürümqi Shaanxi Mosque

   A mosque founded by Hui settlers from Shaanxi in the 19th century, built in the Chinese manner with tiled roofs around a courtyard rather than domes and minarets. It is among the oldest places of worship in the city.
