   A car-free island of 1.88 square kilometres off Xiamen, reached by ferry, its lanes lined with the villas of former consulates and returned overseas Chinese. UNESCO listed it in 2017, and more than ten million people visit each year.

   South Putuo Temple

   A well-known Buddhist temple at Xiamen in Fujian, founded in the Tang dynasty. It is named for standing south of Putuoshan, the Buddhist holy mountain in Zhejiang.

   Church of Christ the King

   The former cathedral on Gulangyu island at Xiamen, and one of the components of the World Heritage site there. The Spanish Dominican bishop Manuel Prat Pujoldevall had it built in 1917.

   A botanical garden founded in 1960 in the Siming district on Xiamen island in China. It grows more than nine thousand species over 493 hectares and belongs to Botanic Gardens Conservation International.

   Gulangyu Organ Museum

   The largest collection of pipe organs in the world, housed in the octagonal Bagua Building on Gulangyu since 2005. Its instruments, a Norman and Beard of 1909 among them, were given by the collector Hu Youyi and play to the island's long musical tradition.
