Yanji is the capital of the Korean autonomous prefecture on the North Korean border, where signs are written in Korean above Chinese and the food follows suit — cold noodles, dog-day soups and skewers grilled on the street.

It is the usual base for Changbaishan, whose crater lake straddles the frontier and is visible only on the days the weather allows. Maoershan park looks out over the city and the Tumen valley.

    A multi-purpose stadium at Yanji in Jilin holding thirty thousand. It was used mainly for football and was demolished in 2013 to make way for a new stadium of the same name.

    Yanji Nationwide Fitness Centre Stadium

    A stadium for 30,000 in the Korean autonomous prefecture, begun in 2010 and opened in November 2013 at a cost of 220 million yuan to replace the old people's stadium. The Yanbian football club plays its home matches here.
