Nha Trang has six kilometres of city beach and a line of islands offshore, reached by boat or by a cable car that runs three kilometres over open water to the Vinpearl park.

The Po Nagar towers above the river were built by the Cham between the seventh and twelfth centuries and are still used for worship. Seafood is cheap, and the signs come in Russian as often as English.

    Po Nagar

    A group of Cham brick towers on a hill above the river mouth, founded before 781 and dedicated to the goddess of the country. Vietnamese and Cham both still worship here, which is unusual among Cham sites.

    Christ the King Cathedral

    The cathedral of Nha Trang, built between 1928 and 1933 of rough-cut stone on a rocky hill above the railway, and known locally as the stone church. Its bells came from France and its glass from the 1930s.

    Phuoc Binh National Park

    A national park in Ninh Thuan province, declared in 2002 on the boundary with two neighbouring provinces, protecting dry forest on the slopes above one of the driest districts in Vietnam.

    Long Sơn Pagoda

    Long Sơn Pagoda is the principal temple of Nha Trang, with a white Buddha on the hill looking out over the city. Climbing the steps to the terrace of the statue opens the whole town below.

    Yersin Museum

    The Yersin Museum preserves the Nha Trang laboratory of the bacteriologist who identified the plague bacillus. His attachment to the city is one of the quieter layers of Nha Trang.
