   An oval sports ground at Launceston, the largest in Tasmania with room for about twenty-one thousand. Australian rules matches are played here each season, drawing crowds from across the north of the state.

   A motor racing circuit of two and a half kilometres thirty kilometres south of Launceston, and the state's main track since the fast and dangerous Longford road circuit closed in the 1960s. Its hairpin is notorious.

   The oldest first-class cricket ground in Australia: the first intercolonial match, Tasmania against Victoria, was played here in 1851 — before either Melbourne or Sydney had a ground of the kind. It is still in club use.
