   Dularcha National Park

   A small national park north of Brisbane whose main feature is a railway tunnel of the 1890s, abandoned when the line was rerouted and now walked through — it holds a colony of microbats, so the walk is best done with a torch and some care.

   Mount Coolum National Park

   A volcanic dome of two hundred and eight metres standing alone behind the beach, climbed in about half an hour for a view along the whole Sunshine Coast. Its slopes hold rare plants that grow only on this rock, so the path is fenced.

   Mooloolah River National Park

   A national park of eight hundred hectares on the Sunshine Coast, protecting wallum heath and paperbark wetland along the Mooloolah river. The motorway cuts through it, but the tracks are quiet.

   A sixteen-metre fibreglass pineapple built in 1971 at a plantation near Nambour, and among the best known of the oversized roadside objects Australians have put up. It is heritage-listed, which few of the others are.

   An aquarium at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, built around an eighty-metre underwater tunnel, with seals, sharks and rays. It doubles as a rehabilitation centre for stranded turtles.
