   Q1 Tower

   A residential tower at Surfers Paradise finished in 2005, two hundred and seventy-five metres to the roof and three hundred and twenty-two to the tip of its spire. The observation deck on the seventy-seventh floor also runs a climb up the spire itself.

   Springbrook National Park

   A park of six thousand hectares in the Gold Coast hinterland, on the rim of an old volcano and part of the Gondwana rainforest World Heritage area. Purling Brook falls a hundred metres, and glow worms light a cave at Natural Bridge.

   Warner Bros. Movie World

   Australia's only film-themed park, opened on 3 June 1991 next to the Village Roadshow Studios on a 154-hectare site. The oldest of the Warner Bros. parks anywhere, it draws around 1.4 million visitors a year to its stunt shows and roller coasters.

   Sea World

   A marine park on the Gold Coast with dolphins, seals and penguins alongside rides and a monorail. It also runs a rescue and rehabilitation programme for stranded and injured sea animals along this coast.

   Dreamworld

   The largest theme park in Australia by number of rides, with the Tower of Terror among them. Four people died on a water ride here in October 2016, and the operator was fined a record amount, which changed safety regulation of amusement parks across the country.

   David Fleay Wildlife Park

   A wildlife park named after David Fleay, the biologist who first bred a platypus in captivity, in 1943, and who set this place up. Boardwalks run through mangrove and melaleuca swamp, and the nocturnal house holds the animals nobody sees in the wild.

   Burleigh Head National Park

   A small national park on a basalt headland left by the Tweed volcano, holding rainforest and pandanus above one of the best point breaks in Australia. The circuit track takes an hour and looks straight down on the surfers.

   Tower of Terror II

   A shuttle coaster at Dreamworld that fired riders a hundred metres up a vertical tower at a hundred and sixty kilometres an hour, and was briefly the fastest ride in the world. It ran from 1997 until 2019.

   Superman Escape

   A launched roller coaster at Movie World that goes from a standstill to a hundred kilometres an hour in about two seconds, then climbs a forty-metre tower. It opened in 2005 and is themed to the comic.

    Nicoll Scrub National Park

    A small national park in the Currumbin valley protecting one of the last remnants of subtropical rainforest on this coast. It adjoins the Currumbin Valley Reserve and is walked rather than driven through.

   Scooby-Doo Spooky Coaster

   An indoor roller coaster at Movie World on the Gold Coast, themed to Scooby-Doo. Riders carry light guns and shoot at targets in the dark for a score, on a track that runs through a haunted house.

   The Giant Drop

   A drop tower at Dreamworld that lifts riders a hundred and nineteen metres and lets go, reaching around a hundred and thirty-five kilometres an hour on the way down. It opened in 1998 on the same tower as the coaster beside it.

   Wet'n'Wild Water World

   A water park at Oxenford with a wave pool and a set of large slides, open through the Queensland summer and busy from Boxing Day to the end of January.

   WhiteWater World

   A water park next to Dreamworld at Coomera, open in the warmer months and sold on a combined ticket with it. The tube slides and the wave pool are the draw, and the queues are shorter than at the theme park next door.

   Sovereign Islands

   A group of islands dredged out of the Broadwater and built up as a private estate, where the houses have their own berths and the streets are named after monarchs. It is among the most expensive addresses in Queensland.

   Green Lantern Coaster

   A steel roller coaster at Movie World, opened in 2011, whose first drop tips past vertical at about a hundred and twenty degrees — the steepest of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

   Hot Wheels SideWinder

   A steel shuttle coaster at Dreamworld designed by Arrow Dynamics and built in Melbourne, which runs its train forwards and then backwards through the same loop. It has been rethemed several times and is one of the park's original rides.

   An arts precinct at Surfers Paradise gathering a gallery, an outdoor stage and riverside parkland on one site. The green tiled gallery building, opened in 2021, holds the largest public art collection in a regional Australian city.
