   Jaisalmer Fort

   Raised in 1156 by Rawal Jaisal, the second oldest fort in Rajasthan and one of the few living forts anywhere: about a quarter of the old city still lives inside the walls. Its yellow sandstone bastions turn from tawny to honey as the sun drops, hence the name Sonar Quila.

   Gadisar Lake

   An artificial tank dug in 1156 by the founder of Jaisalmer and rebuilt about 1367 by Rawal Gadsi, whose name it carries. It watered the whole city for centuries; fed now by the Indira Gandhi Canal it never dries, and ghats and chhatris ring its edge 1.5 km from the fort.

   Jaisalmer War Museum

   A military museum at Jaisalmer founded by the Desert Corps of the Indian Army, opened on 24 August 2015. It displays war material including vehicles and equipment captured in the operations of 1965 and 1971.

   A museum in the Mehar Bagh garden on the shore of Gadisar lake, founded by N. K. Sharma. Its sections cover photographs, costume, fossils, horse and camel ornaments, jewellery and painting.
