   Aphetae

   The ancient port of Magnesia from which, by tradition, the Argonauts set out — the name means the departure. The Persian fleet anchored here before the battle of Artemisium in 480 BC. The site is on the coast opposite Skiathos and is little more than a bay and a scatter of stone.

   Lalaria

   A beach of white pebbles under cliffs on the northern shore of Skiathos, reached only by boat. A natural arch of rock stands at one end, and the water takes an unusual blue from the pale stones beneath it.

   Skiathos Castle

   The remains of a medieval fortified town at the northern tip of Skiathos in Greece. It was the main settlement of the island from the mid-fourteenth century until 1829 and is now an uninhabited protected site.

   Papadiamantis House Museum of Skiathos

   The house and museum of the writer Alexandros Papadiamantis, who lived from 1851 to 1911, on Skiathos in Greece. He grew up in the two-storey house his father built in 1860, and after his death it became a museum of his life.
