   Panagia Ekatontapiliani church

   A Byzantine church complex at Parikia, traditionally founded by Constantine's mother Helena on her way to Jerusalem and rebuilt under Justinian in the sixth century. It is among the best-preserved early Christian churches in the Aegean, with a baptistery still in place.

   Portara of Naxos

   The remains of a temple of Apollo on the islet of Palatia north of the harbour of Naxos. The tyrant Lygdamis left it unfinished in the sixth century BC; its Greek name, Portara, means the great door, and only the marble doorframe stands.

   Archaeological Museum of Paros

   A museum at Parikia on the Greek island of Paros. It was established in 1960 and consists of two rooms and a courtyard.

   Archaeological Museum of Naxos

   The island's archaeological museum, in the Venetian building of the Jesuit school founded in 1700 inside the Kastro. A museum since 1972, it holds Early Cycladic figurines from Naxos, Keros and Kato Kouphonisi, along with Mycenaean grave goods from the tombs at Aplomata.

   sanctuary of Yria

   A sanctuary of Dionysus on the plain south of Naxos town, where worship reaches back to about 1400 BC. Four temples rose here in succession, the last in the 6th century BC; excavation since 1986 has raised its columns again above the water table.

   Mycenaean acropolis (Koukounaries)

   A rocky hill above Naoussa bay holding the best-preserved Mycenaean acropolis in the Cyclades, where a fortified mansion burned about 1200 BC. Storage jars, weapons and charred grain were found where they fell, and the site was settled again in the Geometric period.

   French ship Superbe

   A 74-gun Téméraire-class ship of the line built by the French navy in the 1810s. She was completed in 1814 and played a small part in the Napoleonic wars.

   Antiparos Castle

   A fifteenth-century castle on the island of Antiparos in the South Aegean. Giovanni Loredan, the Venetian noble who held the island, built it in 1440 and settled inhabitants there at his own expense; houses form its outer wall.

    Church of Presentation of the Lord

    The Catholic cathedral in the Kastro at the top of Naxos town, raised under the Venetian dukes who held the island from 1207. Coats of arms of the Latin families are set into its floor and walls; the archbishopric it belongs to sits on Tinos.
