   Monastery of Saint Moses the Abyssinian

   A monastery on the cliffs of Santorini's caldera rim. Its community follows the Syriac Catholic rite, and the terrace on which it stands gives the standard view down onto the flooded crater and the volcanic islets in the middle of it.

   Convent of Saint Thecla

   A Greek Orthodox convent at Maaloula in Syria, under the Patriarchate of Antioch. It was built in 1935 around the cave of Saint Thecla.

   Mar Sarkis

   A Greek Melkite Catholic monastery above Maaloula in the mountains north of Damascus, dedicated to the soldier saints Sergius and Bacchus. Parts of the fabric are Roman, and the village below is one of the last where Aramaic is still spoken.

   Sts. Constantine and Helen cathedral

   The Melkite Greek Catholic cathedral of Yabrud, north of Damascus, parts of whose fabric go back to a pre-Christian temple on the site. It has belonged to the archeparchy of Homs since 1849 and was damaged during the Syrian war.
