Van Don is the newer airport for Ha Long Bay, where sixteen hundred limestone towers stand out of green water — World Heritage, and the image most people carry of Vietnam.

Boats stay overnight so that the kayaking and the caves happen before the day trippers arrive. Lan Ha Bay, on the Cat Ba side, has the same rock and a fraction of the traffic.

    Bai Tu Long National Park

    A national park in Bai Tu Long bay, north of Ha Long and with a fraction of the traffic. The same limestone towers stand in the same green water, but the islands here keep their forest and several are inhabited by fishing communities.

    Cua Ong Temple

    A temple at Cam Pha in Quang Ninh, dedicated to Tran Quoc Tang, a son of the general who defeated the Mongol fleets. It looks over Bai Tu Long bay, holds a spring festival, and was listed as a special national relic in 2017.
