Cagayan de Oro is the gateway to Camiguin, an island barely twenty kilometres across with seven volcanoes, hot and cold springs within a few minutes of each other, and a bare sandbar offshore called White Island.

The city itself runs the best whitewater rafting in the Philippines, on the river that gives it its name. Boats to Camiguin leave from Balingoan, two hours east along the coast.

    Cagayan River

    A river watering the north-central part of Mindanao, also called the Cagayan de Oro river. It rises in the Kalatungan and Kitanglad ranges in central Bukidnon and passes Talakag, Baungon and Libona before reaching the sea.

    Tagoloan River

    A river running a hundred and six kilometres from the Bukidnon highlands to the sea near Cagayan de Oro, and the thirteenth largest watershed in the Philippines. Its rapids are the ones the city's rafting uses.

    Saint Augustine Metropolitan Cathedral

    The cathedral of Cagayan de Oro, seat of the archdiocese and dedicated to Augustine of Hippo. The present building replaced one destroyed in the Second World War and stands beside the city's main plaza.

    Divine Mercy Shrine

    A hillside shrine at El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, where a statue of the merciful Christ fifteen metres high looks out over Macajalar Bay. The nine-hectare site was built from donations and draws pilgrims through Holy Week.
