   A freshwater lake in the forested hills above Siaton, shaped like a figure of eight and pinched to 90 metres at its waist. It formed when a magnitude 6.8 earthquake dammed the valley; three creeks feed it from the north, two of them over waterfalls.

   A crater lake at three hundred metres in the hills west of Dumaguete, in a park that holds three of them. Its water is cold, the forest comes to the edge, and kayaks are the only craft allowed.

   A protected area of eight thousand hectares fourteen kilometres west of Dumaguete, wrapped around two crater lakes and reaching up the Talinis range. Its cloud forest holds hornbills and flying foxes.

   A beach at the southwestern tip of Panglao Island in Bohol, and the base for the diving on Balicasag and the reefs around it. Dive shops and bars line the sand a short drive from the airport.

   The cathedral of Negros Oriental at Dumaguete, beside a coral-stone belfry of 1811 that was built as a watchtower to warn the town of raiders from the south. It is among the oldest such towers in the country.
