   Schloss Rastatt

   A baroque palace at Rastatt, built from 1700 for Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm and the first residence in southwest Germany laid out on the Versailles model. Its interiors were never damaged by war and survive as designed.

   Hohenbaden Castle

   A castle built about 1100 by Margrave Hermann II of Baden on the western slope of the Battert rock, and the seat of the margraves for nearly four hundred years. A Gothic lower castle was added under Bernard I.

   Fabergé Museum

   A private museum opened at Baden-Baden on 9 May 2009 by the Russian collector Alexander Ivanov. It shows work from the Fabergé jewellery house together with copies of it.

   Museum Frieder Burda

   Richard Meier's white pavilion of 2004 in the Lichtentaler Allee, joined by a glass bridge to the state gallery next door. It shows the collection Frieder Burda built of classical modernism and post-war art, Picasso, Beckmann and Richter among the names.

   The new palace on the hill at Baden-Baden. The fifteenth-century castle of the margraves of Baden was rebuilt as a Renaissance palace in the sixteenth century; it is now in private hands.

   Schwarzwaldhochstraße

   A ridge road running sixty kilometres through the Black Forest from Baden-Baden to Freudenstadt. It was laid out in the 1930s and runs at around a thousand metres, which has made it a celebrated scenic route.

   A pilgrimage church at Marienthal in Alsace west of Baden-Baden. The Marian pilgrimage there began in the fourteenth century, and it draws more pilgrims than anywhere else in Alsace.

   St. George's Church, Haguenau

   The church of St George at Haguenau in Alsace. It began as a Romanesque building in the twelfth century and was continued in Gothic in the thirteenth, so both styles stand in the same fabric.

    Brahms House

    The house at Baden-Baden where Brahms spent ten summers from 1865. The Second Symphony and a number of chamber works were written here, and it is now kept as a memorial.

   Yburg Castle

   The ruins of a twelfth-century castle on the vineyard slopes southwest of Baden-Baden. Its round keep survives and is open as a viewpoint, from which the Rhine plain and Alsace beyond are visible.
