   Railay Beach

   A peninsula between Krabi and Ao Nang, cut off from the road by limestone cliffs and reachable only by longtail boat. Those cliffs made it one of the first sport-climbing destinations in Asia, and there are now several hundred bolted routes above the sand.

   Khao Phanom Bencha National Park

   A national park in Krabi province around a mountain of nearly fourteen hundred metres, the highest in the region. It protects rainforest, gibbons and the Huay To waterfall, which drops through eleven tiers.

   Wat Tham Suea

   A temple northeast of Krabi built around a cave with what is taken for a tiger's footprint in the rock. A stair of over twelve hundred steps climbs to a golden Buddha on the summit, with the karst plain laid out below.

   A Royal Navy S-class submarine launched on 30 August 1943. She spent most of the Second World War in the Far East and Pacific, sinking a number of Japanese and Siamese cargo vessels and sailing craft.

   Wat Kaeo Korawaram

   A large white temple on a hill in the middle of Krabi town, reached by a staircase flanked by naga serpents. It is the principal monastery of the province and the terrace gives a view over the river and the karst.

   Noppharat Thara Beach

   A three-kilometre stretch of sand and casuarina west of Ao Nang, inside the national park that reaches out to the Phi Phi islands. At low tide a sandbar opens a walk to the islet offshore, and longtail boats leave from the eastern end.
