   Wat Phra That Lampang Luang

   The finest surviving Lanna wooden temple, its open hall built in the fifteenth century on a walled mound. A hole in the wall of one building projects an inverted image of the golden chedi onto a cloth inside, a camera obscura found nowhere else in Thai temples.

   Wat Phra Chedi Chao Lang

   A temple north of Lampang whose Lanna name means the monastery of twenty stupas, for the row of small white chedis in its courtyard. A solid gold Buddha found in a nearby field is kept in its museum.

   Wat Phra Kaeo Don Tao Suchadaram

   The principal temple of Lampang, founded by the town's first Mon ruler. The Emerald Buddha was kept here from 1434 until a Chiang Mai king moved it in 1468, and a tall gilded chedi marks the place.

   Wat Si Chum

   The largest Burmese-built temple in Thailand, raised in 1893 by a teak merchant from Burma when Lampang's forests drew loggers north. Fire destroyed the great gilded hall in 1992, and it was rebuilt to the old design with its tiered roof and carved eaves.
