Ko Chang is the third largest island in Thailand and still quiet, because it is five hours from Bangkok rather than one. Most of it is national park — jungle, waterfalls and a spine of hills.

White Sand Beach has the hotels, Bang Bao is a fishing village on stilts at the southern end. Ko Mak and Ko Kut, further out, are quieter still. The season runs November to April.

    Mu Ko Chang National Park

    A national park in Trat province covering Ko Chang and some fifty smaller islands with the water between them. The interior of the main island is rainforest and waterfall; several Second World War wrecks and a Thai warship sunk in 1941 lie offshore.
