Davao is the main city of Mindanao and lies under Mount Apo, at 2,954 metres the highest peak in the Philippines and a two-day climb.

The Philippine Eagle Center breeds one of the largest eagles in the world, of which only a few hundred pairs remain. Durian is sold on every corner. Samal Island's beaches are ten minutes away by ferry.

    San Pedro Cathedral

    The cathedral of Davao, founded in 1847 and the oldest church in the city, rebuilt in the 1960s with a roof shaped like the prow of a boat. It is dedicated to Peter, the city's patron.

    People's Park

    A city park opened in 2007 in the middle of Davao, planted with over a thousand species from Asia, Africa and the Americas. Kublai Millan's tall sculptures of Mindanao's tribal peoples stand among the paths.

    Lon Wa Buddhist Temple

    A Mahayana temple on Cabaguio Avenue in the Agdao district, three or four kilometres northeast of central Davao City. It is among the largest in the Philippines and the largest in Mindanao, its walls faced in Italian marble.
