Philippines

Siargao is the Philippines' surf island, teardrop-shaped and edged with mangrove, where the reef break at Cloud 9 throws a right-hander that a wooden pier runs out to watch.

Swells are largest from August to November. Away from the water there are rock pools at Magpupungko that fill at low tide, coconut forest to the horizon, and three small islands to hop between. A hired motorbike opens all of it.
